ROWAN’S TEMPLE DATA CENTERS:

MYTH VS. FACT

Big projects bring big questions — and plenty of misconceptions. This page provides clear, straightforward answers about Rowan’s data centers in Temple, Texas.

From energy use and water conservation to jobs and community impact, we separate myth from fact so residents and businesses can understand what’s really happening, what it means locally, and how we’re working to protect and support the community every step of the way.

  • Fact: Rowan’s data centers use closed-loop systems that are filled once with up to an estimated 1.5 million gallons of water, which is recirculated for about ten years (no matter the temperature inside or outside). We are prohibited by the city of Temple from using more than 4,000 gallons per day for domestic uses — the equivalent of about 10 single-family homes.

  • Fact: The City of Temple and Rowan have never used a non-disclosure agreement. In fact, each of Rowan’s projects has had at least three public hearings. Rowan’s projects have been covered extensively by the local media, we have established a contact form on this website, and we have hosted an Open House for the public. More opportunities are coming soon to stay engaged.

  • Fact: All projects will be subject to SB 6 regulations.

  • Fact: These projects are all built on land that the city and county have both designated for industrial growth through long-range planning processes that involved community input.

  • Fact: Rowan has worked with Oncor to ensure that they can accommodate these facilities without burdening residential ratepayers. Additionally, Rowan will pay for all our power infrastructure needs.

  • Fact: These data centers will each employ more than 500 workers during construction. Once construction ends, these jobs don’t just go away — there are other projects where their skills are required. Once operational, these data centers will employ at least 40 people each, with a minimum wage of $80,000 annually. These projects will also continue to need local companies to provide security, landscaping, maintenance, and other important services.

  • Fact: The data center is specifically designed to keep the loudest parts the furthest away from residential areas. Rowan installs vegetative screening, berms, and voluntary setback buffers to ensure our neighbors don’t see or hear these facilities all the time. A voluntary noise study is completed for each project prior to issuing a certificate of occupancy, and if the facility is outside local regulations, the city can force Rowan to take corrective action throughout the lifetime of operations.

  • Fact: Rowan is a U.S.-headquartered company with U.S. leadership, U.S. employees, and U.S. projects — our investors are global, but our operations, governance, and commitments are firmly rooted in the communities and regulatory frameworks where we build.
